Bridge Construction Project

Lick Run Bridge, Clearfield County, PA

Challenge

As subcontractors to Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc., we had to overcome several challenges to complete this job on schedule – building at a height of 109 feet, harsh weather conditions, aggressive deadlines to keep the general contractor on schedule. The overall goal of the project was to improve the state highway by replacing the single-span bridge with a five-span continuous bridge that was realigned to minimize a hairpin curve and make the road safer for motorists.

Solution

Our role in building the bridge wasn’t easy. Approximately 772,603 pounds of epoxy rebar were tied into place, and 27,520 square feet of metal decking was installed. Lick Run Bridge was started in April of 2008 and completed on time in July of 2009. Upon completion, Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) awarded the project the 2009 Excellence in Construction Merit Award for Best Infrastructure: Heavy Project.
